Fashion Design - Aziza Norkulova

Sound Design - Evan Neely

The music for this line was created by fusing together instruments, rhythms, and beats from all around the world, with a special focus on Persian inspired sounds. Through a combination of flute, string instruments, and drums, the song captivates the audience as the models dance on the stage and tell the story of identity, tradition, and the journey of life. This sound was developed for the line East Meets West in Carnegie Mellon’s annual fashion show, East Meets West by Aziza Norkulova.

The track was pieced together by Evan Neely, a graduate from Carnegie Mellon University. This piece, along with his other work, can be found on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/album/4U4QhHsgB1SofUGEavPM0c?si=fOHb7GZ2ROS3CG9t3-_ksg). Click on the link to hear the track for East Meets West.

“Inspired by the renowned and historical city of Samarqand, Uzbekistan, where Eastern and Western cultures intertwined on the Silk Road, East Meets West, by Aziza Norkulova, embodies the convergence of cultural and personal evolution. Growing up in America with immigrant Uzbek parents, my childhood encompassed traditional Uzbek fabrics such as Atlas & Suzani, textiles woven into my line through modern silhouettes that celebrate tradition, uniqueness, and the beauty of identity and growth”.
